Tyra Oseng-Rees talking at Hacks to the Futures Festival in Stavanger, Norway
This year, the organisers of Hack to the Futures festival, from Næringsforeningen in Stavanger-region in south of Norway had seen the NRK URIX (29min in to the news) feature about my work from last year, and I was invited to share the story from Wales alongside Jane Davidson.
Jane, the architect behind Wales’ Well‑being of Future Generations Act, and I stood on the same stage, sharing two sides of the same story.
In 2015, Wales did something no country had done before. It turned a principle into a law: that the decisions we make today must not limit the possibilities of those who come after us. Environmental, economic, social and cultural sustainability — all treated as one ecosystem. Not a slogan. Not a quote. A legal commitment.
Jane spoke about what this means for future decision‑makers. I spoke about how this law has shaped my own practice, giving language, structure and direction to work I had already been exploring through experimentation, failure and curiosity.
This post is just the beginning. I have more to share, including how this law opened the door to my upcoming and meaningful projects for the new Wellbeing Centre in Newport City Council, Wales. More soon.
Thanks to the organisers in Kreativt Stavanger and Næringsforeningen i Stavanger‑regionen.
