Bespoke Glass Awards Created for the Society of Glass Technology’s Furnace Solutions Conference

Innovation & Sustainability Award – Society of Glass Technology, sponsored by Calumite Ltd

This year Oseng-Rees Reflection were commissioned to create a collection of 18 bespoke awards for the Society of Glass Technology’s annual Furnace Solutions Conference, held on 3–4 June. The event brings together global voices from across the glass industry to discuss innovation, sustainability and the future of glass manufacturing.

The awards were designed to reflect these themes, using materials that embody circularity and responsible design. Each piece began as discarded clear glass bottle, which was kiln‑fused into a large sheet before being cut to size using a water‑cooled diamond saw. The glass was then kiln‑fused again, cut down to 10×10 cm, and edge‑polished to reveal the subtle layers and colour shifts within the material.

Every glass piece was mounted in a diamond‑shaped stand crafted from reclaimed wood, completing a design that celebrates both reuse and craftsmanship.

These awards were presented to attendees in recognition of their contributions to innovation and sustainability within the glass industry, a meaningful alignment between the purpose of the awards and the materials from which they were made. In a sector working hard toward NetZero and a more sustainable future, transforming waste glass into something that honours progress felt especially fitting.

Creating this collection has been a rewarding opportunity to showcase the potential of recycled materials and to contribute to an event dedicated to shaping the future of glass.

A special thank you to Calumite Limited for sponsoring the awards.
